Betsy DeVos says the decision to have guns in or around schools “best left for locals and states to decide.”

Nominee for Education Secretary Betsy Devos commented during her Confirmation Hearing on January 17th that the decision to have guns in or around schools is “best left for locals and states to decide.”

Senator Chris Murphy, who asked the original question,  asked a follow up question as to whether she could not say definitively that guns should not be in schools. DeVos replied, “The school in Wapati, Wyoming… I would imagine that there is a gun in the school, to protect from potential grizzlies.”
