White House defends Bannon’s seat on Security Council: He was in the navy.

The White House Press Secretary Sean Spicer justified Chief Strategist Steve Bannon’s appointment to the National Security Council, stating that Bannon was a “former naval officer.” Bannon served 7 years in the navy in the 1970s and 1980s.

Bannon’s appointment demotes chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, General Joseph Dunford and the next director of national intelligence from the council. They are now considered members who “shall attend where issues pertaining to their responsibilities and expertise are to be discussed.”
