House Speaker Paul Ryan addressed the media last week after the Trumpcare meltdown with the American Healthcare Act (AHA) being pulled. “We came really close today, but we came up short.” he stated. ” I will not sugar-coat this. This is a disappointing day for us.” Ryan also added, “All of us, all of us, myself included, we will need time to reflect on how we got to this moment. What we could have done to do it better.” He also praised President Donald Trump’s effort saying, “The President gave his all in this effort. He did everything he possibly could.”
Trump had tried negotiating with and pressuring the Republican House representatives who were not in favor of the bill. He invited them to the White House where they were told by White House Chief Strategist Steve Bannon, “This is not a discussion. This is not a debate. You have no choice but to vote for this bill.”
Many right-wing groups had counted on a deal being done, and the AHA being passed. The American Action Network per-maturely ran ads on American television promoting the new bill, and telling viewers to thank their representative in the House for voting for the bill.
